I was immediately engrossed in Ben H. Winters' dystopian novel, Golden State. The world he creates is reminiscent of George Orwell's 1984, one of my all-time favorite books. In the Golden State, lying is illegal, and the Speculators can see your lies in the air. There is no way to hide.
But, what happens when things are not so clear? Not so cut and dried? When two Speculators dive into a crime investigation, they find that the truth is never clear or simple.
This was my second Book of the Month book, and I waited awhile to read it. Once I picked it up, I was completely absorbed. I stayed up way too late because I had to know how it ended. This story is full of unexpected twists and turns. Fantastic book.
I am an audiobook narrator, writer, reader, and lover of the written word.
